Moment
The turning effect of a force acting at a distance from a point or axis.
Moment = Force × Perpendicular distance
M = F × d
The moment of a force about a point measures how strongly the force tends to rotate an object around that point. It depends on the magnitude of the force and the perpendicular distance from the line of action of the force to the point.
M = F × d
Additional bending relation:
σ / y = M / I = E / R
Where:
σ = bending stress
y = distance from neutral axis
M = bending moment
I = second moment of area
E = Young's modulus
R = radius of curvature
